**Jason Duval is one of GTA 6's two playable protagonists: an ex-Army drug runner living in the Leonida Keys who is trying, without much success, to want less.** Rockstar's own bio opens with the line that does all the work — "Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder."

Everything on this page that is labelled confirmed comes from Rockstar directly: the character bios published on the official Grand Theft Auto VI website alongside Trailer 2 in May 2025, the *Extended Look* of 27 August 2026, and the Dazed interview Rockstar granted the day before it.

## Who is Jason Duval?

Rockstar's official bio is short and worth reading in full rather than paraphrased. Jason grew up around grifters and crooks. After a stint in the Army trying to shake off his troubled teens, he found himself in the Keys doing what he knows best, working for local drug runners. In Rockstar's words, "it might be time to try something new."

Head of development Rob Nelson put it more bluntly to Dazed ahead of the Extended Look: Jason is ex-military and a drug runner. Lucia is a fighter fresh out of prison. That contrast is the engine of the story.

| | Confirmed detail |
| --- | --- |
| Full name | Jason Duval |
| Background | Raised among grifters and crooks; served in the Army |
| Current work | Runs product for drug dealers in the Leonida Keys |
| Home | Living rent-free in a property belonging to Brian Heder |
| Known associates | Lucia Caminos, Cal, Brian and Lori Heder |
| Playable | Yes |
| Voice actor | Not announced |

## Where does Jason live and who does he work for?

Rockstar's Only in Leonida page names Brian Heder, "a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys," who still moves product through his boat yard with his third wife Lori. Brian's bio confirms the arrangement directly: he lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties, as long as Jason helps with local shakedowns and stops by for Lori's sangria.

That is the closest thing to a starting position Rockstar has published for Jason — a man in someone else's house, doing someone else's collections.

The official media also repeatedly pairs Jason with a character named Cal: playing pool in a bar, fishing on a boat with binoculars, walking with duffel bags. Rockstar has not published a bio for Cal, so treat the relationship as visually established and narratively undefined.

## What does Jason do in the story?

The premise Rockstar states on the game's front page: "when an easy score goes wrong," Jason and Lucia find themselves inside a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, "forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."

Nelson has described the story to Dazed as very much a Bonnie-and-Clyde structure, with the relationship between the two leads front and centre. Rockstar's own line for Jason, delivered as his pull-quote on the official site, is "if anything happens, I'm right behind you."

Rockstar is careful about what it does not say. There is no confirmed act structure, no confirmed antagonist, no confirmed ending, and no confirmation of who survives. The Bonnie-and-Clyde comparison invites a specific guess about how this finishes. Rockstar has not made it, and neither will we.

## How does playing as Jason work?

Both protagonists are playable, and previews from Rockstar North fill in how the switch behaves:

- Switching is available through most of the open world, though specific story moments may lock you to one character.
- When the pair are together the swap is instant; apart, it uses a GTA 5-style transition.
- While you control Lucia, Jason carries on with his own schedule, and may text you about what he is doing or what needs handling.
- Most missions can be tackled from either side, with some offering the choice of driving or shooting from the passenger seat.
- Jason's physique visibly responds to how you treat him. Working out builds muscle; overeating adds weight; going days without sleep or spending them running from police shows.

Nelson's framing of why the pair are not interchangeable avatars, given to Dazed: "The thing we love about this medium is the way these characters aren't empty avatars that you can do whatever you want with. Their story becomes a journey you share with them."

## Who plays Jason in GTA 6?

Rockstar has announced no cast. That is worth stating plainly because a lot of pages assert otherwise.

Rockstar has historically not published its GTA cast lists before launch, and the names attached to Jason in fan discussion rest on resemblance, portfolio entries and gaps in public credits. None have been confirmed by Rockstar, by a studio credit, or by the actor. We are not going to repeat them as though they were reporting. When Rockstar publishes a cast — most likely at or after launch — this page changes the same day.

## Jason vs Lucia: what actually differs

Mechanically, very little that Rockstar has disclosed. Both can shop, work out, change appearance, steal cars, hit robbery locations and take on the same missions. Both build their own personal vehicle collections stored at their current residence. The differences Rockstar has confirmed are narrative: different histories, different pressures, different reasons to be there. Lucia begins the game under an ankle monitor that previews describe as central to the campaign; Jason begins it owing a favour to a smuggler.

The optional romance between them is exactly that — optional, and per previews it grants no mechanical benefit. You can play the entire campaign with the partnership kept strictly professional.

## Frequently asked questions

These pairs are published on the page itself and are the answers this guide is most often asked for. The tier above applies to them.

**Q: Who is Jason in GTA 6?**

A: Jason Duval is one of GTA 6's two playable protagonists. Rockstar's official bio says he grew up around grifters and crooks, served a stint in the Army to shake off a troubled adolescence, and ended up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners.

**Q: Is Jason a playable character?**

A: Yes. GTA 6 has two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia. You can switch between them in free roam and, in most missions, choose which one you control.

**Q: Who voices Jason in GTA 6?**

A: Rockstar has not announced its cast. Every name circulating for Jason is fan speculation based on resemblances and portfolio listings, and none of it has been confirmed by Rockstar or by any actor's representation.

**Q: What is Jason's surname?**

A: Duval. Rockstar confirmed it on the official Grand Theft Auto VI website when the character bios went live alongside Trailer 2 in May 2025.

**Q: Does Jason die in GTA 6?**

A: Nobody outside Rockstar knows. Nobody has played the game. Any claim about the ending is invention, and the Bonnie-and-Clyde framing Rockstar uses invites the guess without confirming anything.
