**GTA 6 launches on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on 19 November 2026, at the same moment as the PS5 version, for the same $79.99.** It is not coming to Game Pass at launch, it is not coming to Xbox One, and Rockstar has never shown a single frame of it running on Xbox hardware.

That last point is the honest headline for Xbox owners. Everything technical known about GTA 6's performance comes from PlayStation 5 footage. What follows separates what Take-Two has actually committed to from what is being inferred.

## What is confirmed for Xbox?

| Detail | Status |
| --- | --- |
| Platforms | Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S |
| Release date | 19 November 2026 |
| Price | $79.99 Standard / $99.99 Ultimate |
| Storefront | Microsoft Store, plus retailers |
| Pre-load | 12 November 2026 for digital pre-orders |
| Physical copy | Ships 12 November — download code in the box, no disc |
| Game Pass | Not announced; Take-Two's stated policy is against it |
| Frame rate | Not stated for Xbox. Rockstar's console target is 30fps |
| Series S specifics | Nothing published |
| Xbox One | Not happening |

The platform list comes straight from Take-Two's own pre-order press release of 24 June 2026: "Launching November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems for $79.99." The "X|S" formulation is what confirms Series S — Rockstar has never singled the smaller console out, for better or worse.

## Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Game Pass?

Not at launch, and the evidence for that is a stated corporate position rather than an absence of news.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has been asked about day-one subscription releases repeatedly and has given the same answer for years. His formulation to GamesIndustry.biz: putting triple-A games on Game Pass on the day they come out "doesn't make any sense to us, because economically speaking, we don't think consumers are prepared to pay for that. And we can't afford to turn our business upside down in a way that doesn't make sense economically."

Asked later whether rival publishers putting frontline titles into subscriptions day-and-date would change Take-Two's approach, he said: "No, it won't affect our decisions. Because our decisions are rational."

Two things follow. First, a day-one Game Pass release would be a reversal of an explicitly stated strategy for the most valuable release in the company's history — the least likely candidate for a policy change. Second, none of this rules out GTA 6 reaching Game Pass eventually. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both appeared on the service years after launch, and both later left it. If GTA 6 follows that pattern, it is a 2029-or-later question, not a 2026 one.

## How will GTA 6 perform on Xbox Series X?

Nobody knows directly, because nobody has seen it.

What exists is an inference chain that is reasonable but worth understanding as an inference. Digital Foundry analysed the Extended Look footage — captured on a base PS5 — and concluded it renders internally at 1440p without dynamic resolution scaling, output as a spatial upscale to 4K, holding a "relatively stable and well-paced 30FPS output, with only very occasional single frame drops."

Pure Xbox, covering that analysis, drew the obvious conclusion for its own audience: since the footage was base PS5 rather than PS5 Pro, "we're expecting similar performance out of the Xbox Series X this November." Base PS5 and Series X are broadly comparable machines, so that expectation is sound. It is still an expectation.

Rockstar's own frame rate statement is platform-agnostic. Rob Nelson told creator Davy Jones that during this development period the consoles run the game at 30fps, and that a 60fps option at launch remains a question for the technical team. Digital Foundry's read is harsher: a 60fps console version is "extremely unlikely," because there is "no way to regain enough GPU and particularly CPU time to make a 16.7ms update rate work without compromising the world."

## What about Xbox Series S?

This is the genuine unknown, and it is where most Xbox coverage starts guessing.

Rockstar has said nothing about the Series S build. No resolution, no upscaling method, no confirmation that it targets the same 30fps, no statement about whether any content or density is reduced. The Series S has substantially less GPU power and less memory than the Series X, and GTA 6 is a game Digital Foundry describes as saturating current console hardware.

You will find numbers circulating — internal resolutions in the 720p–900p range, FSR upscaling, a 30fps lock. Those are plausible engineering guesses from people who follow console ports closely. They are not sourced to Rockstar, and we are not going to present them as though they were. Series S owners are buying, at this point, on trust that the game exists and runs.

## Is GTA 6 worse on Xbox because of the PlayStation deal?

The marketing arrangement is real; there is no evidence it affects the game.

Sony holds a marketing deal, which is why PlayStation branding closes the trailers and why Rockstar's promotional posts often name PS5 without naming Xbox. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported in May 2026 that Zelnick, asked about the console-only launch, said the window of console exclusivity was not related to Take-Two's deal with Sony.

What the deal has plainly bought is footage. The Extended Look was captured on PS5, Sony published a feature-list blog post, and PS5 has a Pro Enhanced badge with nothing equivalent announced for Xbox. Xbox owners are getting the same game on the same day with materially less information about it. That is a marketing asymmetry, not a content one — but it is a real reason Xbox coverage is thinner, and it is worth naming rather than filling with speculation.

## What Xbox owners still do not know

- Whether a 60fps or 40fps mode ever arrives on Series X
- Anything at all about Series S resolution, frame rate or feature parity
- Install size on either Xbox console — no figure has been published anywhere
- The unlock time on 19 November
- Whether Xbox-specific features such as Quick Resume behave normally with a game this size

We will update this page as each of those becomes a fact rather than a forecast. ## Frequently asked questions

These pairs are published on the page itself and are the answers this guide is most often asked for. The tier above applies to them.

**Q: Is GTA 6 coming to Xbox?**

A: Yes. GTA 6 launches on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 19, 2026, the same day as the PS5 version, and is sold through the Microsoft Store. There is no Xbox One version.

**Q: Is GTA 6 on Xbox Series S?**

A: Yes. Take-Two's press release lists 'Xbox Series X|S', which covers both consoles. Rockstar has published nothing about how the Series S version performs or what it renders at.

**Q: Will GTA 6 be on Game Pass?**

A: Not at launch, on everything Take-Two has said. CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly rejected day-one subscription releases for premium titles, telling GamesIndustry.biz that it 'doesn't make any sense to us, because economically speaking, we don't think consumers are prepared to pay for that.'

**Q: Does GTA 6 run at 60fps on Xbox Series X?**

A: No confirmed 60fps mode exists on any console. Rockstar's stated target is 30fps, and Digital Foundry called a 60fps console version 'extremely unlikely'. Rockstar has shown no Xbox footage at all.

**Q: Is there an Xbox version of the GTA 6 gameplay footage?**

A: No. The Extended Look was captured entirely on a base PlayStation 5. Nobody outside Rockstar has seen GTA 6 running on Xbox hardware.
