GTA 6 releases on Thursday, 19 November 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is Rockstar’s own date, restated on screen at the close of the Extended Look on 27 August 2026, and it has not moved since November 2025.

There is no PC version announced. There is no last-gen version. There is no Switch 2 version. Two platforms, one date.

What time does GTA 6 unlock?

Rockstar has not announced an unlock time. This is the single most-searched GTA 6 question with no answer yet, and we are not going to invent one.

There are two models publishers use, and Rockstar has not said which applies. A midnight-local unlock means New Zealand and Australia play first and the US west coast plays last, spread across roughly a day. A global simultaneous unlock pins one moment worldwide, which for a US-headquartered publisher usually lands at an awkward hour in Europe. Both are common; neither has been announced for GTA 6.

We will publish the confirmed unlock schedule here as soon as Rockstar or the platform holders post it. Until then, treat any specific hour you see online as a guess, including ours.

Why is the release date 19 November and not earlier?

GTA 6 slipped twice.

It was originally targeted at fall 2025. In May 2025 Rockstar announced it would not make that window and set a new date of 26 May 2026. On 6 November 2025, alongside Take-Two’s quarterly results, it moved again to 19 November 2026.

Rockstar’s statement on the second delay: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick framed it to Variety as a scale problem: “we’re seeking to release the most extraordinary title anyone’s ever seen in the history of entertainment. That’s a tall order. And in this instance, Rockstar Games believes a limited amount of additional time is required for polish to support that view.”

Will GTA 6 be delayed again?

Very unlikely at this point, and here is the evidence rather than a vibe.

  • The date has held for nine months. The two previous delays were announced roughly six months out; we are now inside three.
  • Money has moved. Pre-orders opened 25 June. Zelnick told analysts on 7 August that the level of pre-orders was “unprecedented and astonishing.”
  • Physical logistics are committed. Boxes ship 12 November. Retail allocation for a launch this size is locked months ahead.
  • Rockstar restated the date under pressure. On 26 August, responding to a week of gameplay leaks, Rockstar explicitly reaffirmed 19 November rather than using the disruption as cover to move.
  • The Extended Look closed on the date. A publisher planning a delay does not spend the last frame of its biggest marketing beat committing to a day.

None of that is a guarantee. Rockstar moved this date twice already. But a third move now would carry costs the previous two did not.

Platforms in detail

Platform Status
PlayStation 5 / PS5 Pro Confirmed, 19 November 2026
Xbox Series X|S Confirmed, 19 November 2026
PC Not announced. No date, no window, no storefront, no system requirements
PS4 / Xbox One Not happening
Nintendo Switch 2 Not announced

Rockstar has never released a mainline GTA on PC simultaneously with console, and it has said nothing about GTA 6 on PC — not a window, not a confirmation that one exists. See our GTA 6 PC release date guide for the full picture.

How the game will run at launch

Rockstar’s head of development Rob Nelson told visiting creators ahead of the premiere that GTA 6 runs at 30fps on console during this development period, and that whether a 60fps option exists at launch is still a question for the technical team. No PS5 Pro-specific mode has been announced. Treat 30fps as the expectation for November.

What is still unknown

Being clear about the gaps is the point of this page:

  • Exact unlock time and regional rollout
  • Install size and pre-load download size
  • Day-one patch size
  • PS5 Pro enhancements, resolution targets, ray tracing
  • Whether a 60fps mode ever arrives on current consoles
  • Anything about a GTA Online successor — Take-Two has only said the launch version will “feature a single player experience”
  • Anything about PC

We update this page whenever one of those turns into a fact, and the lastVerified date above tells you when we last checked.
